Blue Metal Cycling

Blue Metal was born over a beer at the Weldborough Pub after a mountain bike ride down the Blue Tier trail in June 2017.

Gareth

Gareth has always had a bike in his life, with fond memories of sidecars and tricycles amongst his young years in Darwin. It was during his time living in Thailand as a teenager when his affinity for spending hours riding back country roads blossomed.

It was also in Thailand where Gareth began amassing his guiding experience as a PADI Divemaster. Alongside his Instructor father, the pair managed a dive boat on the weekends showcasing the best the Gulf of Thailand has to offer.

Upon returning to Australia, Gareth studied Chiropractic in Melbourne. Practiced in Far North Queensland, studied Animal Biomechanical Medicine and continued to dive, run, sail, and ride along the way.

With family roots in Launceston and opportunity in Derby, Gareth moved to Tasmania in 2016, he currently practices in Launceston and is enjoying the new adventure of fatherhood.

Gareth is happiest after being on his bike and with his family. He is passionate about sharing the joy that his backyard provides you.

Peter

Peter moved from SE Queensland to be closer to his wife's family. Although adverse to the cold, the lifestyle and riding opportunities provided ample payoff. Peter, wife and two sons are now comfortably settled just outside of Derby. After working for World Trail in the construction of the mountain bike network, Pete now works as the maintenance manager of the Blue Derby MTB network.

Riding bikes as a teen, initially on an old school Malvern Star clunker, Pete gave it away and then rediscovered cycling at the age of 30. Since then bikes have played a central part of his life, from mountain bike to road and now the perfect marriage of the two, gravel.

With a background in agriculture and environmental management Pete has a keen interest in flora, fauna and geology. Part of the attraction of gravel cycling for him is being able to enjoy these aspects of the world. There is little that Pete enjoys more than loading up the jersey pockets with cold boiled potato (with a little salt and olive oil for flavour) and riding from dawn to dusk on the gravel.
